4 Aesthetic Anime Desktop Wallpapers for PC & Laptop

Some desktop wallpapers are all about a favourite character. Others make your screen feel like a place you could spend time in. These four anime-style backgrounds lean toward the second kind: a sunny laundromat, a goldfish shop, a quiet bus ride and a classroom beneath the stars.

They share a slower mood, but they work differently behind desktop icons. Below, you will find a closer look at each scene, the dimensions of the linked image and suggestions for fitting it to your monitor.

Before you save: this is a mixed-resolution collection. The first two links open large files; the bus and classroom images currently available here are 1,600 pixels wide. The dimensions describe the linked files, not a guarantee of how sharp the artwork will look on every screen.

The wallpaper collection

Sunlit anime laundromat with a seated reader, a sleeping cat and rows of washing machines

1. A quiet afternoon at the laundromat

Linked image: 4,000 × 2,250 pixels

Green walls, yellow machines and sunlight through the blinds make this feel like a small everyday moment worth keeping. The reader and sleeping cat sit on the left, while the washing machines give the right side a repeating pattern. It has a warmer, more lived-in mood than a dramatic character close-up.

Desktop-fitting tip: The file has a 16:9 shape, matching many standard desktop monitors. Try placing a small group of shortcuts along the far right if you want to keep the reader visible. Check the labels against the machine doors; their circular highlights can still make white text harder to read.

2. Goldfish shop in warm light

Linked image: 8,892 × 4,664 pixels

Rows of planted tanks, hanging fish decorations and an open doorway give this scene plenty to explore. The closest character is on the right, looking into a tank, while the rest of the shop stretches across the left. Orange fish and warm light stand out against the deep greens.

Desktop-fitting tip: This image is slightly wider than 16:9. Filling a standard monitor may crop a little from the sides, so check the girl on the right before applying it. The large linked file gives you plenty of pixels for cropping, but the busy tanks make this a better choice for a desktop with fewer icons.

3. Reading on a sunlit bus

Linked image: 1,600 × 907 pixels

The blue seats and orange handrails give this wallpaper a clear colour contrast without losing its quiet mood. The main reader sits right of centre, and the daylight makes the bus feel open rather than crowded. It is a good pick if you like slice-of-life scenes more than fantasy landscapes.

Desktop-fitting tip: Keep shortcuts toward the left to leave the main reader unobstructed. This file is close to 16:9, so only a small crop should be needed on that screen shape. At 1,600 pixels wide, it will be enlarged on a 1,920-pixel-wide display and may look softer.

4. An open classroom beneath the stars

Linked image: 1,600 × 1,005 pixels

This is the darkest wallpaper in the collection. Desks and chairs sit beneath a deep blue night sky, with a lone figure near the centre and the city visible in the distance. The broken classroom walls turn an ordinary school setting into something dreamlike.

Desktop-fitting tip: The dark sky is a useful place to try light-coloured icons, though the stars still add detail. This image is taller than a 16:9 frame. Choose a fit setting to preserve the whole scene, or check the top and bottom carefully if you fill the screen. Leave the small signature in the lower-right corner visible where possible.

Compare the files before choosing

Wallpaper Linked file Screen shape
Laundromat 4,000 × 2,250 16:9
Goldfish shop 8,892 × 4,664 Slightly wider than 16:9
Bus reader 1,600 × 907 Close to 16:9
Starry classroom 1,600 × 1,005 Close to 16:10

The laundromat file has enough pixels to cover a 3,840 × 2,160 screen without enlargement. The goldfish-shop file is larger still, although its proportions differ slightly. The other two will need enlargement on a Full HD or 4K display. That does not stop you using them, but preview them at your actual screen size rather than judging only from the small gallery image.

How to save and apply a wallpaper

  1. Click Open large image below the scene you want. The image opens in a separate tab.
  2. Right-click it and choose your browser’s save-image option. On a phone, touch and hold the image to find the save or download option.
  3. Save the file somewhere you can find it again, then choose it through your computer’s desktop-background settings.
  4. Preview the available fit options and check the picture with your normal shortcuts and taskbar visible.

The button opens the picture rather than forcing a download. Save it from that tab. Avoid taking a screenshot of this page: it captures the displayed preview and may include page elements instead of the larger linked file.

Fit, fill or stretch?

Fit usually keeps the entire picture visible while preserving its proportions. If the picture and your screen have different shapes, you may see empty space along two edges. This is worth trying for the starry classroom if you want to retain both the sky and the foreground desks.

Fill covers the screen while keeping the picture’s proportions, so some edges may be cropped. It is a useful starting point for the laundromat on a 16:9 monitor. With the goldfish shop, check whether the crop cuts into the character on the right.

Stretch can distort the scene when the image and screen have different proportions. Faces may look wider or narrower, and round details may become oval. Try fit or fill first; the exact names of these settings depend on your system.

For an ultrawide monitor, none of these files is an exact 21:9 match. Filling that screen can remove substantial detail from the top and bottom. Fitting the whole image is an alternative if you prefer to preserve the composition.

Make the scene work with your desktop

Start with the artwork’s main subject. Keep the left side of the laundromat clear if you want to see the reader and cat. The main characters in the goldfish shop and bus scene sit toward the right, so a small group of shortcuts on the left is a better starting point for those.

Then check the labels, not just the icons. Bright windows, fish tanks and seat patterns can make text difficult to read even when the overall image looks dark. Moving a few shortcuts or reducing the number on your desktop often helps more than changing the wallpaper.

For warm afternoon colours, choose the laundromat or goldfish shop. For cooler daylight, try the bus reader. The starry classroom suits a darker setup and has the most dreamlike atmosphere. Choose the scene you enjoy looking at, then adjust the layout around it.
